Overview

The Military Council is the gathering of Imperial generals and admirals. Individually, the generals have responsibility for the orders given to the Imperial army under their command, while the admirals provide the orders for the navies. A general commands a single Imperial army, drawn from volunteers from their nation. Once a general is given their command, they have sole authority to order the army to move or attack as they choose. After each summit, the Civil Service quickly circulate the orders each general has given among Imperial citizens, allowing military unit captains to decide if they wish to commit their own force to support an army, and if so which army to support.

With the Autumn Equinox ending, the Empire remains engaged with barbarians in several locations, summarised in an in-character way in the mini-wind of war After the Harvest. It's important to note that it only takes into account the orders of Imperial generals; it doesn't predict what the barbarian armies will do. It's our intention to provide a similar summary going forward after each event, to help lend context to the orders submitted by the generals.

Following that, there is a list of the orders that were submitted by Imperial generals, as well as where they are deployed, and whether the Quartermaster General of the Imperial Armies has decided that military units supporting them will receive the guerdon or not. We'll be doing this after every event going forward as well, bringing the Imperial Military Council into line with the Senate, Synod, and Conclave in terms of making their decisions public.

After the Harvest

As the last flames lit at the Autumn Equinox flicker and die, we look across an Empire at war, battle-horns echoing from one side to another.

In the Mournwold, an immense force of Jotun seem set to bring the whole Marcher territory under their command. As the Equinox dawned, tens of thousands of Jotun warriors had seized Southmoor, Greensward, Ore Hills, and Chalkdowns, reinstating Jarl Haakon as ruler of the Mourn. Now a dozen Imperial armies stand against them, the oath-bound Tusks at the fore. The people of the Mourn, human and orc alike, rise to meet the challenge of the Jotun, inspired by the victory of Imperial heroes in the Ore Hills. If the Jotun press their claim or stand their ground, the dour hills will again be steeped in blood. Can the Empire hold their line, or force the Jotun back?

Further south, the future of the Brass Coast remains uncertain, but for the moment Imperial forces have pulled out, armies needed elsewhere. In their absence, Madruga remains split between multiple factions, a great force of Grendel camped along the coast of what were once the Siroc Plains now transformed by cataclysmic magic into mysterious fens. Feroz has been freed, but Commander Gallum Fiersach still commands the fort of Mora's Rock. The Children of Wrecks have raised their navy and stand poised to spread their power beyond scattered islands; where will their first furious hammer-blow fall?

Along the south-eastern coast Redoubt is wracked with storms. Amid tumultuous rumour of an attack by the Children of Wrecks, three Imperial armies hurry to defend the Urizeni coast, to reinforce the garrison at the Court of the White Fountain. A force of that size should be more than enough to see off the Wreckers, perhaps the Council has reason to believe something worse is on the way? The Empire's probing strike into Ayereed has fallen back, and only the Winter Sun remains to defend Mareave. Will the Grendel armies they fought in the petrified forest follow them, and can they stand against them if they do?

And then Therunin. During the Autumn Equinox, the heroes of the Empire fought the Druj here, a desperate battle to prevent the ghulai from not only destroying Feverwater Steading but rousing the vallorn of Sweetglades. They succeeeded, but at what cost? The cursed woodlands are scattered with the flower of Dawnish nobility, cut down amidst the seeping miasma. As the corrupting rot of Spring magic creeps and pools across a territory already scarred by the malice of the Buruk Tepel, Navarr armies and their Varushkan and Dawnish allies make a desperate strike. The stakes could not be higher; the orcs of the Mallum are without virtue or conscience and have already shown they are prepared to unleash the vallorn against the Empire. If their presence in Therunin goes unchecked, who knows what else they may have in store?

And in the Barrens, the Gryphon's Pride slip the bonds of law and march to slaughter the Rahvin. The Imperial Senate declared the orcs of the Barrens to be foreigners promising them the full protection of the law; but that same law gives General Archavion Wolfborne sole command of their army, and he has ordered the 'Pride to put the Rahvin to the sword. Left unchecked, they will destroy the sept, and show that the Senate's will is naught but a paper shield. The general and any captains who fight with them, will face the full force of the law but that will be too late for the Rahvin, and too late for any hope of peace with the other slaves of the Druj for a generation to come. Who will trust an Empire that speaks of liberation after this?

Of course, all this is the present, the moment between breathing in and breathing out. Where the Imperial Military Council has put their strategies into effect, so their enemies have made their own decisions. Neither side knows with any certainty what the other is planning. Will the Druj stay in Therunin and fight or will they withdraw and strike like the assassins' blade elsewhere? Do the Children of Wrecks really threaten Redoubt; how reliable is rumour? Will the Jotun stand and fight in Mournwold or sweep away into Bregasland where their enchanted castle rises over Gravenrock, and only the Strong Reeds stand against them? Or perhaps rampage east toward the rich city of Tassato, and the three armies recuperating there? Where else might the flames of war kindle, unlooked for, in the months to come?

The winds of war shift and twist, and nobody can speak with certainty of what the winter may bring, but what is certain is that the choices made by Imperial captains will help to shape the outcome.

The Brass Coast

The Brass Coast have three armies: Burning Falcon, Fire of the South and Red Wind Corsairs. They can support two armies.

Burning Falcon

Gryphon's Pride

  • Orders: Too long have we watched as others decide the fate of our homelands; they give land to those who stood against us and spit in the face of the way. They give aid to those who hate us whilst Imperial citizens suffer with wars engaged in all our lands with the coffers running dry. The Throne speaks of virtue and vigilance, yet no others are prepared to act. We will not stand by idle while these atrocities continue. We will not fear to act! I stood before priests and swore my dedication to vigilance, and on that very same night I had a Profound Dream. In the Barrens I saw a great beast wreathed in shadow, it's eyes were the darkest sickening green and its breath writhed with plague and poison. As I steeled my resolved and stepped towards the fouled shadow it receeded into the Fangs. Berechiah's life taught us that though some may frown on our actions, the truly virtuous do not fear to do what must be done. We will be decisive and do what we know to be right, and remove the taint from the Barrens. We will liberate the Fangs for the good of the Empire and Dawn so we may prosper and survive the onslaught coming at us from all sides. For only we are prepared to give our all for the Empire. Highguard

Highguard have three armies: Granite Pillar, Seventh Wave and Valiant Pegasus. They can support three armies.

Valiant Pegasus

The Marches
