Tender of the Phoenix Flame
Overview
The Tender of the Phoenix Flame is an Imperial title that grants custodianship of a sinecure and potentially a ministry. The motion to begin construction was passed during the Winter Solstice 385YE following an opportunity presented by Meraud. The Flame of the Phoenix is in Grovesyard, Astolat; over a small regio close to the Larmallevés estate.
Responsibilities
The Tender of the Phoenix Flame has a responsibility to oversee the Flame of the Phoenix, to ensure that the mana produced by it is used in grand works of magic, and to explain the magic that the mana was used in to Meraud if asked. In addition, if there were ever a threat to either the Flame of the Phoenix or anyone visiting it then it would be the responsibility of the Tender to ensure such threats were dealt with.

Songs of the Phoenix
The Flame of the Phoenix can theoretically also function as a ministry. If the title holder is an Enchanter of Dawn then the heralds of Meraud will guide the Tender in the method of burning certain expensive woods in the flame and singing magical songs about the glory of the Summer stars, and the old Monarchs of Dawn that will enhance the flame's power, focusing it's energy to produce additional mana. As a ministry, the Tender can purchase mana crystals at a set price. The Tender spends their money and makes their choices during downtime from their character page. Money is removed from, and mana crystals are placed into, the character's inventory when the downtime is processed.
If the title is held by a character who is Dawnish and has the enchanter archetype, or they somehow become one during their tenure, then the player must email plot@profounddecisions.co.uk to let us know.
Appointment
The appointment, replacement or removal of the Tender of the Phoenix Flame is made by the Declaration of Candidacy as part of a Conclave session.
The Tender of the Phoenix Flame serves until they are replaced by another magician using the Declaration of Candidacy. The Tender cannot be revoked by the Imperial Synod.
The Title in Play
The role does not provide additional information about events in the Empire, nor allow the player holding it to request special reports or downtime actions. These details are assumed to be below the abstraction layer. The title holder is encouraged to create their own stories about their activities within reasonable limits and to get involved in events appropriate to their title during the game, but they do not have any powers beyond those explicitly listed in the section on powers.
These details exist partly to provide context and character to the role - and partly to allow our writers to use the title as a plot hook. Plot that involves the position will be rare - but all the campaign positions in Empire have these details to create the potential for it to happen.
