Bailiff of the Heath
Overview
The Bailiff of the Heath is an Imperial title awarded to a citizen of the Marches. The commission of the Bounders Hall of Stockland was passed by the Imperial Senate at the Summer Solstice 387YE. The Bailiff of the Heath is responsible for organising the defence of Stockland and, to a lesser extent Upwold, from the depredations of thieves, vagrants and other ne’er-do-wells. The title was created as a result of an opportunity presented in the Kith and kin wind of fortune.
Responsibilities
The Bailiff of the Heath has a responsibility for organising the defence of Stockland, and to a lesser extent, Upwold. In addition, if the Bounders Hall of Stockland, or the bounders who use it, were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Bailiff to deal with those threats.
Powers
Regular Income
The Bailiff of the Heath gains custodianship of a sinecure. Each season, they receive 216 rings, partially as payment from the grateful farmers and traders of Stockland and its surrounds and partly as goods confiscated from defeated outlaws.
Appointment
The Bailiff of the Heath is selected by unanimous decision of the Marcher senators at the Spring Equinox. If a unanimous decision cannot be reached, the title may be appointed by the Imperial Senate instead.
The title can be held by any Marcher citizen. The Bailiff serves until the next scheduled election. They can be revoked by the General Assembly, the Marcher National Assembly, and by the Assembly of the Nine.
