Overview

The Custodian of the Printers Guild Mausoleum is an Imperial title that has custodianship of the Printers Guild Mausoleum, commissioned by the Chair of the Wolf, Gustavus Tolski van Temeschwar, at the Summer Solstice 386YE.

Responsibilities

The Custodian has no particular responsibilities; they simply receive a bounty of crystal mana from the Mausoleum. If the Mausoleum were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Custodian to deal with those threats.

Powers

Bounty of Mana

The Custodian of the Printers Guild Mausoleum gains custodianship of a sinecure. The Custodian receives an income of 13 crystal mana each season.

Appointment

The Custodian is appointed by unanimous decision of the senators of the League. If a unanimous decision cannot be reached, the title may be appointed by the Imperial Senate instead.

The title can be held by a citizen of the League. The Custodian has tenure, and serves until they die or step down. They can be revoked by the General Assembly, the League National Assembly, and by the Assembly of the Nine.

Printers Guild Mausoleum

Amongst the warehouses and busy printworks of Mestra stands the Printers Guild Mausoleum. Built adjacent to the Printers Guild Museum is a lasting legacy to the printed word and those involved in its proliferation. Built in an elaborate gothic style under the guidance of noted polymath Ivo Shando Von Holberg, it is swathed with torches, burning to keep the rolling fog of the Vassa at bay. Replete with the symbolic representations of the Labyrinth, this impressive structure in a way to assert authority on the city.

Great polished metal friezes wrap around the building, depicting masked figures that gather and spread the written word. From notetaking and typesetting to cranking the press and distributing to libraries, universities and booksellers throughout the Empire and beyond. Every detail is picked out on the silver surface.

Cunningly worked into the designs are some of the most popular titles of the Printers Guild: The Prince’s Pledge; Meditations on Magic; Taddea’s Theorems; Revelations Treasures and Truths; Bean Haggler; Casamir’s Guide to Pubs and Pubbing; Fertility and when to Sheath; Engineering by Director of the Wunderkind; How to Solo Autumn; Nadia’s Guide to Wine and Hangover Cures; Carmine - So You Chose to Adventure, and most prominent of all, A Torchbearers Journey.

Above all the detail and finery, stands the proud figure of the Silver Mask, gazing towards distant mountains.

The Title in Play

The role does not provide additional information about events in the Empire, nor allow the player holding it to request special reports or downtime actions. These details are assumed to be below the abstraction layer. The title holder is encouraged to create their own stories about their activities within reasonable limits and to get involved in events appropriate to their title during the game, but they do not have any powers beyond those explicitly listed in the section on powers.

These details exist partly to provide context and character to the role - and partly to allow our writers to use the title as a plot hook. Plot that involves the position will be rare - but all the campaign positions in Empire have these details to create the potential for it to happen.
