Bailiff of Meade
Overview
The Bailiff of Meade is an Imperial title awarded to a citizen of the Marches. The commission of the Bounders Hall of Meade was announced in the Imperial Senate by Protectorate Thenrik, as Legion Engineer, at the Autumn Equinox 386YE. The Bailiff of Meade is responsible for organising the defence of Meade and, to a lesser extent Mitwold, from the depredations of thieves, vagrants and other ne’er-do-wells. The title was created as a result of an opportunity presented in the Kith and kin wind of fortune.
Responsibilities
The Bailiff of Meade has a responsibility for organising the defence of Meade, and to a lesser extent Mitwold. In addition, if the Bounders Hall of Meade, or the bounders who use it, were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Bailiff to deal with those threats.
Powers
Regular Income
The Bailiff of Meade gains custodianship of a sinecure. Each season they receive 216 rings, partially as payment from the grateful farmers and traders of Meade and its surrounds and partly as goods confiscated from defeated outlaws.
Appointment
The Bailiff of Meade is selected by unanimous decision of the Marcher senators at the Winter Solstice. If a unanimous decision cannot be reached, the title may be appointed by the Imperial Senate instead.
The title can be held by any Marcher citizen. The Bailiff serves until the next scheduled election. They can be revoked by the General Assembly, the Marcher National Assembly, and by the Assembly of the Nine.
