Sanctuary

The bravo leapt round the corner with the two knights hard behind him. With a final burst of speed, he rocketed into the League encampment and into a shrine, almost knocking over the bishop as he did so.

As the knights came pounding up, the bravo grinned as he turned to face them. "Sanctuary..." he gasped, breathlessly, "I have... sanctuary."

Feeling the aura of pride palpably about him, the bravo turned to the bishop - only to find himself being regarded as though he were something unpleasant found on the sole of a boot.

"No," said the bishop, "you don't"

The knights advanced.

• An Imperial citizen - not a barbarian or foriegner - may ask a Synod priest to grant them sanctuary.
• The citizen may only do this if they are standing in a consecrated area, or in a location designated as belonging to the Synod.
• The Synod priest is not required to grant the request for sanctuary
• If the Synod priest does grant sanctuary, the citizen has the turn of an hourglass before they are required to face a magistrate on any charge that might be levelled against them.
• A citizen who has been granted sanctuary may use that time to gather evidence, support or seek clemency.
