Overview
The Stone Smith is an Imperial title awarded to a Marcher citizen. The title was created by the Imperial Senate at the Spring Equinox 387YE. The Stone Smith is responsible for organising the nation's smiths, and helping them to create bargains that aid the nation. More information on the opportunity that led to this title's creation can be found on the A pinch of salt wind of fortune
Responsibilities
The Stone Smith has a responsibility to organise the nation's smiths and help them to create bargains that aid the nation. In addition, the Stone Smith is responsible for overseeing the workshop. If the workshop, or those who work there, were to be threatened, then it would be the responsibility of the Stone Smith to deal with those threats.
Powers
The Stone Smith is intended to be held by a smith: the smiths who visit, trade, and work at the workshop expect one of their own to be responsible for overseeing it. If the title is held by a character who does not have the smith archetype, then the player must email admin@profounddecisions.co.uk to let us know.
Seasonal Income
The Stone Smith receives a seasonal income of one throne from the sale of quality goods produced at the workshop.
Key to Door
The smiths of Mitwold and Upwold have pledged to provide the Stone Smith with a Pauper's Key each year at the Spring Equinox, provided that the holder of the title was publicly committed to the role of smith in the Marchers (OOC Note: Had the smith archetype when they were appointed).
Call to the Gull
The Stone Smith is able to send a message to a single eternal during the Autumn Equinox in order to benefit the Marches. This message follows the same restrictions as the plenipotentiaries of the archmages.
Appointment
This title is appointed during the Summer Solstice. The Stone Smith is appointed by citizens of the Marches who control farms. The larger the farm an individual has, the more votes they can allocate in support to a candidate. The voting is handled by the civil servants in the Bourse.
Only a citizen of the Marches may hold the title. They do not receive a seat on the Bourse. As a title appointed through the Bourse they cannot be revoked by the Imperial Synod.

Recent Elections
This title is currently held by Gemma Brightsmith; it will be reelected at Summer Solstice 388YE. The table to the right shows the citizens who have been elected to hold this title in the years since Empress Britta died.
The Title in Play
The role does not provide additional information about events in the Empire, nor allow the player holding it to request special reports or downtime actions. These details are assumed to be below the abstraction layer. The title holder is encouraged to create their own stories about their activities within reasonable limits and to get involved in events appropriate to their title during the game, but they do not have any powers beyond those explicitly listed in the section on powers.
These details exist partly to provide context and character to the role - and partly to allow our writers to use the title as a plot hook. Plot that involves the position will be rare - but all the campaign positions in Empire have these details to create the potential for it to happen.
