Overview
The Ambassador to Jarm is an Imperial title. It is an Imperial position appointed by the Senate. The Jarmish embassy is located in the town of Cargo in Redoubt, while the Imperial embassy to Jarm lies in the city of Vezak in the southern Principalities.
Relations between the Empire and Jarm have been rocky for at least the past decade for a number of reasons. Foremost among them is a Jarmish perception that the Empire regularly attempts to interfere in its internal politics, especially in regard to the matter of slavery. These concerns are not entirely ungrounded, of course. As recently as the Autumn Equinox 384YE, Jarm declared war on the Empire and provided considerable magical support to the Grendel in the Bay of Catazar. This support ended in Summer 385YE, apparently as the result of a significant favour provided to the eternal Prospero by the Rod and Shield. Relations remain tumultuous, however.
Prior to the Winter Solstice 387YE, the Ambassador was theoretically able to purchase goods from merchants and those seeking favour, though was prevented in doing so by the embargo placed on the Principalities of Jarm by the Empire. This was changed, along with the rest of the ambassadors, when the Senate voted to amend the embassies to end the practice. If the Principalities of Jarm were not currently being embargoed by the Empire, this would have also removed the upkeep costs for the embassy.
Responsibilities

Ambassadorial Lore
Jarmish Embassy
The embassy of the Principalities of Jarm stands in the Urizeni town of Cargo, in Redoubt. Cargo is home to three separate international embassies with the Principalities of Jarm, the Citadels of Axos, and the merchants of the Sarcophan Delves. The first of the three, work began on the Jarmish embassy in Summer 378YE. A beautiful, airy construction of white granite and weirwood with an extensive (and expensive) gardens as well as several private apartments, it is now a recognisable feature of the Cargo skyline.
Wrangling about the Imperial embassy in the Principalities continued for several months after completion of the embassy in Jarm. The Jarmish House of Princes demanded that the Empire select one of the three primary ports - northern Kavor, southern Vezak, or upstart eastern Rigia as the location for an Imperial embassy - an obvious move to entangle the Empire in the internecine internal wranglings of the Jarmish government. Then Ambassador Oswi Twice-Burned was called upon to nagivate the complex situation and the decision was ultimately made to choose Rigia, although that would ultimately end in tragedy and the relocation of the Imperial embassy to Vezak.
In 386YE concerns were raised about the proximity of the diplomatenschloss - the Commonwealth embassy - across the river in Hedra. Ships from the two rival nations must travel up and down the Couros river to reach their respective embassies and there were worries that it would only be a matter of time before fighting breaks out between the two. The establishment of the Coursgard, a Highborn operation dedicated to keeping the peace on the river, should mean that it does not come to open conflict any time soon. Hopefully.
Jarmish Ambassador
The Jarmish ambassador to the Empire is Lord-Magister Anton Trescher of the Hidden Hook, who attends at the House of Princes. A canny and influential politician who has served the House of Princes for over forty years, he represents the Jarmish to the Empire and vice-versa. A potent master of Autumn magic, he is known for his sarcasm and dry wit, and for his commitment to the sovereignty of the Principalities he serves.
Ambassadorial Briefings
As discussed in the 388YE Autumn Equinox wind of fortune So little I wanted, so little I got, the civil service have recently reinstituted Ambassadorial briefings. At least in the short term, the civil service have resumed furnishing Imperial ambassadors who are supported by embassy staff with individual briefings where necessary and appropriate. To maintain transparency and preserve continuity, the briefings are made available to those who wish to review them after the summit where they are delivered, in a similar way to which historical research is made public. Only those elements of a briefing that are specifically personal to the ambassador may be removed, and only where they are clearly not of interest to the Empire. At the end of the year, this procedure will be reviewed again, to ensure that it is fit for purpose.
