| The Glass Point Crystal Cove
| |
|
| |
| The Glass Point Crystal Cove is the third project of Red Raven Holdings, a building society incorporated in the Caricomare, Sarvos and dedicated towards the construction of sincures that will benefit the Empire and its citizens.
| |
|
| |
| The Cove is a legacy of the ambition and pride that Richardo Glostari, a Sarvosian fleet captain, has for his adopted town. He had been hunting for a significant mana source in the vicinity of Glass Point after discovering the notes of the exemplar Avigliana di Sarvos about the unusually powerful mana flows surrounding the town.
| |
|
| |
| This drove him to wisely contact Giacomo Corvinoscuro, chairman of Red Raven Holdings, to see what could be done for the area. Much was discussed, but it was upon a tranquil fishing expedition amongst the islets and cliffs of the Bay of Catazar that the two men stumbled across a secluded sandy beech leading up to a cove with luminescent veins of crystal growing through the rock.
| |
|
| |
| Experienced in magic, the two men camped overnight to investigate the wondrous cove. They were able to identify that the formation was formed from a natural flow of mana seeping through the rocks before being sand-blasted into crystal by the warm, balmy air blowing in from the sea.
| |
|
| |
| With a knife it was possible to pry the crystals free from the cove wall as if they were ancient fossils embedded in the rock, but it was clear doing this would only despoil the cove in the long run. Instead Richardo and Giacomo concentrated on what could be done to trap the mana in the depths of the cove where the sea breezes couldn’t reach.
| |
|
| |
| Most of the mana here seeped into the sands to be washed away to sea, but it could be better harnessed if a mesh to capture the mana was hung from wall to wall. Unfortunately such a mesh would have to be fashioned from lavish Mithril to be both strong enough to withstand the elements but also woven finely enough to separate the mana from sheer sediment.
| |
|
| |
| So Red Raven Holdings organised and funded the sinecure of the Glass Point Crystal Cove, commissioned by the Signeur of the Compagnia di Rossi, Dalibor Marek di Saverio von Temeschwar, in his role as Imperial Wayleave.
| |
|
| |
| The commission was fraught with difficulty, what was an easily accessible location for a small fishing boat, was a practically impossible location to reach for the vessels the civil service normally used, sheltered as the cove was by tiny inlets, rocky crags and hull-breaking shallow waters. On Richardo’s understandable insistence the Mithril nets were woven in nearby Glass Point to bring prosperity to the local area but it was hard to find artisans skilled in such exotic materials, finally it was discovered that tethering the nets from wall to wall was impractical as the weight put too much strain on the crumbly walls and so instead were hung between stone plinths, one at each corner and imbedded underneath the sands.
| |
|
| |
| The reward for anyone adventurous enough to reach the Cove is to be hit by a riotous wall of colour as the light from the mithril nets and the luminescent walls hits the streaming daylight pouring in from the sea to cascade in all directions. Although few will ever get to see it as the Crystal Cove’s exact location is a closely guarded secret, known only to the Custodian and a few other well-trusted individuals least raiders from the sea take advantage of its treasures.
