Overview
The Red Depths are located in Serra Damata in the Brass Coast territory of Kahraman. Custodianship of the Red Depths grants an Imperial title; a seat on the Imperial Bourse; and a seasonal bounty of valuable mithril.
The Resource
During the Summer Solstice 385YE the generals of the Military Council voted for the heroes of Anvil to journey through the Sentinel Gate to Redgate Pass following an offer from the House of Fire and Flame. Once on the field the Imperials were able to negotiate the sale of ten rondures from the heralds and transport them into position. The resultant cacophony was heard from miles around as the mountain was torn open exposing the rich mineral wealth within. With the battle won and the area secured, the excitable heralds of the Bronze Artisan assisted the Civil Service in their assessment of the area whilst making full use of the power of the Day realm which blanketed the Empire.
The mountains of Kahraman are rich in minerals and Redgate Pass is no exception. At the first the assumption is that the mineral wealth will be rich seams of weltsilver and green iron, but the metal-skinned heralds of Estavus are able to locate an even more valuable option - there are valuable deposits of mithril deep in the mountain. Unfortunately the destruction of the mountain has rendered the area where the mithril is located vulnerable to further subsidence and collapse. As a result the Red Depths required expensive excavation and underpinning work to stabilise them before they were able to be operated safely. The mining families of Kahraman offered their labour and expertise for the mining operations in exchange for the new mine being declared a national Bourse seat.
During the Autumn Equinox 385YE the Senator for Segura, Diego i Del Toro i Erigo, presented a motion to establish the Red Depths as a National Bourse seat of the Brass Coast. During the most recent invasion by the Lasambrian Jotun work was delayed by a season but construction finally was completed shortly before the Spring Equinox 386YE.
The Bourse Seat
Responsibilities
The Seat has no particular responsibilities; they simply receive a bounty of mithril which is theirs to do with as they will. If the Red Depths were to be threatened in any way, it would be the responsibility of the Seat to deal with those threats. Likewise, if any particular opportunity were to arise related to the Red Depths, the Seat would expect to be consulted as to how that opportunity might be resolved.
Powers
Seat on the Bourse
Custodianship of the Red Depths comes with a seat on the Imperial Bourse. For the most part, this Seat comes with no additional responsibilities. It is an Imperial title that grants the right to participate on the rare occasion when the Imperial Bourse as a body is required to make a decision.
Bounty of mithril
The Seat has control of a source of mithril and receives Bourse certificates to represent that control. They can dispense this resource as they choose. Production is 19 Imperial wains of mithril every season.
Appointment
As with all mithril Bourse seats, the holder of the title is determined during the Autumn Equinox. Control of the Red Depths is assigned to whichever Freeborn candidate receives the most support from Freeborn owners of fleets during the Tally of the Votes.
Custodianship of the Red Depths is retained for a year, or until the citizen holding the seat dies, or steps down. An Imperial Bourse seat cannot be revoked by the Imperial Synod.
