			The Drakespawn are a company of Grendel who are quite peculiar in their proclivities. Adept Spring ritualists, they have spent the last two decades trying to “improve” the [[Dire Astacid\|dire astacid]] – often to their own detriment. They have finally struck upon what they consider to be a solid idea, in the not-so-solid [[Madruga#Crucible\|Crucible]]. They have brought with them a breeding pair of the creatures and are taking them into the strange and magical region. Unfortunately, their path takes them directly through the [[Made_anew#Camp_of_the_Sand_Crab\|Camp of the Sand Crab]].

			If they are not stopped, they will capture, or more likely kill, the guard at the camp - rendering it useless until rebuilt - and move on. They will be lost to the enigmatic wilds, and over time the dire astacids will begin to pose a real threat in the region. 			The Vorlach Adventurers are a mercenary company of Grendel who [[Blood-red_blooms#At_the_Gardens_(Necropolis)\|attacked]] the [[Abbess_of_Reconciliation#Abbey_of_Reconciliation\|Abbey of Reconciliation]] only last season. They have been hired by ''Eilidh'', maistir of the Haurlatch Iron Consortium, to once again launch a raid on an Imperial holding and sow discord in the area. Eilidh even funded the use of a pair of [[Dire Astacid\|dire astacid]] to help run roughshod over any Imperial defence. Unfortunately, the maistir of the Haurlatch Iron Consortium chose to direct them at Spiral, and they were ill-equipped to handle the malignancy of the {{Black Plateau}}. The company has splintered into groups, with the dire astacid roaming between them, leaving them ripe for picking.

			There is no Imperial structure under threat here, but there is an opportunity. If the [[Oblivion Sentinel]] can take down the mercenary company, then they will be able to claim the pay – a sum totalling a comfortable twelve thrones – and do with it what they wish. As the Vorlach Adventurers are a mercenary company, it is possible that if things go wrong and there are Imperials down behind enemy lines, it might be possible to barter for them back. 			Even as the Grendel armada was foiled by the speed and wit of the Freeborn, a few cunning ships managed to keep pace with the Red Wind Corsairs. The Silver Runnel managed to skirt around the Suranni and make it as far as Oranseri, making anchor south of Escambal; a small village between Joharra and Bramar. The Silver Runnel are well known to the residents of Escambal, often shipping produce from the village and beyond for the now-deceased Governor Rahab.

			Part of the ongoing resentment, other than their being Grendel and working for the much-despised Rahab, is that they were permitted to plunder what they wanted from Escambal so long as they kept the inhabitants subdued. One of the first things they claimed was the ''Brazen Links'', an incredibly mundane but nevertheless sentimental necklace worn by the founder of the village when it was first settled centuries ago. The leader of the Silver Runnels still wears it to this day, as proof of their audacity. If the [[Corsair of Oran]], '''Esteban I Del Rio Blanco I Guerra''', can kill the Grendel, claim the Brazen Links, and return it to the egregore, they will receive a reward of three wains of weirwood before the Summer Solstice.

Perhaps an unfortunate accident sees a cohort of mercenaries stuck on the wrong side of a fallen bridge (things go awry for the just and the unjust alike).
