			This is the formal description of the sinecure’s mission:

			An institution established to help liberated slaves. We aim to provide shelter, sanctuary and physical and emotional healing to anyone who has been recently liberated from slavery. We will provide ongoing support and comfort to former slaves by giving them a safe place to stay while they recover, come to terms with their experiences and build themselves a new future. This will include guidance and teaching in the Way for any who have been deprived, or never had the opportunity to learn about it.

			For the Empire as a whole, we will provide outreach and education, giving advice on how to help and support family and friends who have been rescued from slavery.

			A description for flavour:

			Situated in a small village on the edge of Astolat, just a stone’s throw from the border of Weirwater, The House of the Proffered Hand is a sinecure that has made use of an abandoned manor house and several smallholdings which had fallen into ruin since heavy losses in battle struck the village more harshly than many others. There are also many tents set up in the grounds, ready for an anticipated influx of liberated people.

			There are gardens, both ornamental and those growing produce to feed the residents, tended by both staff and those in recovery, along with a hospital building to treat those who arrive badly hurt and also those with ongoing chronic conditions caused by captivity and torture. It is a peaceful place in a sheltered valley, employing many of the village residents and helping to rejuvenate the local economy.
